We’ve taken a look at cats, now it’s time for dogs. Just like cats, LEGO dog figures went under significant changes throughout the years. There are also a significant number of dog species that have been LEGOfied. In this article, you’ll find all the dog figures ever released, including Bellville, Scala, System, Friends and DUPLO themes. As new ones are released, they will be added.
I tried to find photographs of the ones I don’t have in my collection. However, it wasn’t always possible. If you own any of these, and want to contribute, please let me know.

First LEGO Dog Figures
Just like cats, dogs first appeared in Belville sets as well, in 1994 and 1995. There are two, one adult and one cub. Although different colors were released in the following years, the moulds they use are the same. Both have printed and unprinted versions. The unprinted adult dog was made in black, the printed version was made in black and dark orange. The unprinted puppy is dark gray and black, printed ones are white and dark orange. The adult continued to appear in sets until 2008, the puppy until 2001.
There’s another dog appearing in Belville sets. This rust-colored dog from 2005 is a bit big, even for Belville standards.
Moving to LEGO Scala dog figures… at this point, we see a change. Unlike cats, the same figure wasn’t used in both themes. Scala dogs have two different moulds, too, adult and cub. Their coloring and printing indicate one is a Dalmatian and the other is a Foxhound. Except for the Dalmatian released in 1998, they all have names. The Foxhound adult is Sita, the cub Sniff. The Dalmatian adult is Domino, the cub Ditto. Each were only released in one set except for the Foxhound cub. After being released in 2000 and 2001, these dogs were put out of production as the Scala theme came to an end.
LEGO System Dogs
The first System dog appears in 2004 in Harry Potter sets. It represents the Grim from the movies, and has a bluish dark gray color. It changes its color to reddish brown and jumps to City and Castle sets as well. It’s possible to find it in sets until 2010.
It undergoes a change in 2011, becoming the dog figure we still see in sets from time to time. It’s possible to find it in medium nougat and dark orange, with different prints. Judging by its print, it’s meant to represent a German shepherd. The same mould is used as a Dalmatian in 2013. In 2021 an unprinted white version appears in just one set.
There are other dogs that use the same mould, but each represents a specific character. It’s used as Wonder Woman’s dog in 2018, in medium blue. In 2022, it turns black to represent Grim from Harry Potter and the Celestial Dog from Monkie Kid. It returns as Dante from Coco in 2023, in dark brown. When I was getting the Disney CMF series, I intentionally skipped Dante, as it looked too silly for my taste. Also, I always favored The Book of Life over Coco. We can add this little fact to our unnecessary information pool :) (you’ll be finding more of these as the number of articles increase)
The dog species get really wild between 2013-2024. A lot (and I mean A LOT) of dogs are released both with new moulds and new colors. In chronological order, these dogs are Chihuahua (2013, 2020, 2023), Husky (2014, 2022) and a German shepherd using the same mould (2019), Terrier (2016, 2019), French Bulldog (2017, 2019, 2023), Dachshund (2019, 2020), Bulldog (2020, 2024), Golden Retriever (2021, 2023), German shepherd puppy (2023), Afghan Hound (2024), Neapolitan Mastiff (2024) and Labrador (2024).
Some details:
- The dogs wearing neon yellow fire and police vests are moulded with the vest, it’s not a separate piece.
- The one-eyed Golden Retreiver is Lucky from Hawkeye series.
- Neapolitan Mastiff is Hagrid’s dog Fang from Harry Potter.
- The dog sizes are not in relation to each other, that will come later :)
- The Golden Retriever appears as “Labrador / Golden Retriever” in Bricklink. When the ones with the vests were released, I thought it was the same dog but a different mould with a vest. Boy, was I wrong! There were two different species completely, as you can see below.
In addition to these, we have a ghost dog that comes with the Hidden Side theme in 2019 (Spencer), Toto from the Wizard of Oz and a robot dog that came with the CMF Space series. The ghost dog’s mould is new and unique to him. Toto uses the Terrier mould, robot dog uses the French Bulldog mould.
A dark bluish gray German shepherd puppy arrives with the Dungeons & Dragons CMF series in 2024.
We finish 2024 with two Labradors. One is yet another reddish brown, comes with the Downtown Street Car & Station (60423). Its only difference is the pattern on its vest. The other comes with the Advent Calendar, tan-colored and has a dark green sweater.
The German shepherd puppy – or the wolf cub – gets a mama in 2025, and we get the first wolf figure in LEGO history. Included in the CMF 27 series, this wolf is light bluish gray.
2025 is a good year for dogs – we get many with both minifigure and minidoll-based sets. First, the Alsatian mould comes back after two years, with a new print for Padfoot (Harry Potter) and the Celestial Dog (Monkie Kid). Both dogs are black, and I only have one of them, but according to Bricklink’s description I can tell you the print changes are very subtle. Here they are, old and new together, Padfoot on the top and the Celestial Dog on the bottom.
With the summer sets, we get Aunt Marge’s (Harry Potter) bulldog, a new print on an existing mould, along with a new color for the wolf puppy with City sets. Tan, it looks like. Do I need to point out it comes with two adult wolves? Well played, LEGO Group :)
LEGO Friends Dog Figures
I intentionally left out Friends dogs, because I think they have a special place. First, let me say I have very few of these. One of the reasons for that is dogs have never been my priority when getting animals. You may say “Yeah, but you have all the others?”, which brings us to the second reason. It took me a very long time to warm up to the Friends theme. So I usually went “Hmm, yeah, it looks nice” and moved on.
However, that wasn’t able to stop me from mentioning the wide range of them when I was writing about the general history of animals. Dogs got their share, too. Starting from 2012, we’ve been seeing them in different moulds, colors and prints for years. A total of 10 moulds, more than 60 different colors and prints – it was way more than I imagined. Finding the images below wasn’t easy. The things we do for LEGO, right? :P
There’s another one I missed before, since it uses the mould of a different animal. A Husky, released in two sets in 2016 and 2017. It uses the fox’s mould, with a body of light bluish gray and white and dark bluish gray printing.
Like Friends cats, dogs get their puppies in 2021. Even though all Friends dogs look like puppies to me, these new ones are much smaller. We see 6 different colors; medium nougat, white, bright light orange, medium lavender, dark pink and dark turquoise. Dark orange is added to the family in 2023, along with an unprinted medium nougat and sand blue.
PS: This puppy mould is found in Sonic the Hedgehog sets as a pig and bear, too. Since they’re not dogs, I will not include them here.
Friends sets, especially in the latest years and after being renewed, have been focusing a lot on diversity and inclusivity. The animals get their share, and a very special dog is released in 2023. Nova’s dog Pickle is unable to use its hind legs, instead it moves around with a wheelchair harness attached to its body. I wanted to mention it separately from others, since it holds a special place in my heart.
Summer 2024 sets bring a new face print for Pickle and a new friend, a white Pug with gray spots.
2024 was the year of space, right? Well, if cats go to space, why shouldn’t dogs? We have an astro-dog named Apollo :)
Friends dogs, like I mentioned before, has a handful of new moulds, colors and prints in 2025 as well. We get two Corgis with new moulds right at the beginning of the year, followed by new colors and prints for the existing moulds from previous years. The most significant of these is probably the Labradoodle (sitting dog with its eyes covered by fur) and her cub. They both use a relatively new and rare color, Sienna, which so far can only be found in minifigure/minidoll parts.
Like Figaro, Minnie Mouse’s cat (which I mentioned in the Cats article) the lavender puppy using the mould of the Friends puppy comes with a minifigure based set. Both are from the same set, Minnie’s Pet Hotel (43274), with an additional Friends bunny.
Oh, I almost forgot. Just like Friends cats after the theme’s renewal, the dogs have names, too. Not all of them are mentioned in Bricklink, so maybe not all of them are named, but here are the ones that are.
Licensed LEGO Dogs
We open our stores with Pluto. His first appearance is in 2000, comes with two sets. It’s re-made in 2020, that one comes with two sets as well. Santa’s Little Helper from The Simpsons follows him, released in 2015 with the second Simpsons CMF series. He has buggy eyes like Snowball.
We also get a Scooby Doo in 2015, our first (and so far only) Great Dane. Scooby has two different body types and five different expressions. Unlike other dogs, you can remove his head.
There are two dogs that come with the Whisker Haven Tales sets released in 2016: Daisy and Pumpkin. Like their cat counterparts, their molds are unique to them.
In 2017, we get a little Krypto (Superman’s dog) with DC Super Hero Girls sets. It has a unique mould and the cape is included in it, too. It’s followed by a more adult Krypto accompanied by Ace (Batman’s dog) in 2018. These two dogs share the same body but have different heads. Yes, just like Scooby, you can remove their heads.
In 2023 Spot from 101 Dalmatians joins the family with Disney CMF 100 series. Dug comes along in 2024, the silly dog from Up (still bickering to myself about not opening that set yet…).
The second licensed dog from 2024 is Zero from The Nightmare Before Christmas. It comes with a super cool new mould.
Spot gets a sibling in 2025. I’ve read it could be Penny, but it’s really hard to tell among all 101 Dalmatians :)
LEGO DUPLO Dog Figures
97 sets, 6 moulds, 16 dogs. The number isn’t much when compared to minifigure-scaled dogs, but it’s not too shabby when we think about the diverse DUPLO animal universe.
We start in 1986 with a Terrier. It’s black, and after appearing solo for a while, it’s released with a baseplate. As far as I understand, it’s not possible to remove it. The plate comes in green, light green and medium green. The dog stays the same in all, both color-wise and print-wise. It’s seen in sets until 1996.
Continuing with a Dachshund releasing in 1998. It can be found in white and dark orange, both versions having black spots. The same mould is used in 2004, this time tan with brown spots. It hasn’t been seen since 2005.
Apparently, the dog released in 2007 doesn’t have a specific species, it’s just called “dog”. Made in tan, black, white and medium nougat, it managed to appear in sets until 2023. The medium nougat one is the first licensed LEGO DUPLO dog figure, from Doc McStuffins.
In 2016, a medium nougat Husky is released using the DUPLO fox mould. 2019 sees the release of Pluto, 2020 and 2021 are the year of the Bulldog, and we finish up the dogs.
I only have one of these, the Bulldog from 2021. Next to a minifigure, it looks more like a Great Dane than a bulldog :)
